Amazon launches Kindle book loans for local libraries
Starting with over 11,000 libraries. (And you don’t have to actually go to the library.) How does it work?
Customers will use their local library’s website to search for and select a book to borrow. Once they choose a book, customers can choose to “Send to Kindle” and will be redirected to Amazon.com to login to their Amazon.com account and the book will be delivered to the device they select via Wi-Fi, or can be transferred via USB.
I’m not sure what the selection is like, but it should mean more free e-books for people to read, which is generally a good thing.
For those keeping score, Barnes & Noble’s Nook has already supported this sort of feature for a while, plus free in-store reading. Apple’s iBooks store doesn’t have anything like this yet.
