Samsung says it would “never” buy WebOS
“It’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion,” [Samsung Electronics CEO Choi Gee Sung] said. Samsung, which has its own mobile operating system called Bada, is working to boost its software capability “harder than people outside think.”
It’s not like buying WebOS would get Samsung a hit platform, anyway, because it doesn’t have a big-enough developer or consumer base to matter. It will be equally hard for Samsung to build one around Bada — Samsung isn’t traditionally a strong software player — but perhaps cheaper.
