Matt Mullenweg on what’s next for Apple

Some good ideas from the founder of WordPress. I’m especially interested in what Apple has planned for the living room. As Matt notes:

My TV takes 5-10 seconds longer to turn on than my iPad. “Smart TVs” look like “smart phones” did in 2005 — completely lacking in imagination or joy. [...]

Now imagine Apple has a shining 55″ monolith smack dab in the middle of your house. How big of a wifi antenna could they put in there? Could they crush all that lame Cisco teleconference stuff with TV FaceTime?

Today’s Apple TV box does some cool stuff — AirPlay mirroring in iOS 5 sounds great — but it feels too much like an appetizer and not enough like a main course. I still hope that Apple will dare to sell me a giant display with their software and magic built in. Cable companies’ recent moves to support IP-based TV on the Xbox 360 are a huge step toward that, I think.
