Microsoft: Over 525 million Windows 7 licenses since launch
That is, admittedly, a very big number.
Since then — October, 2009 — Apple has likely sold about 35 million Macs, possibly 250 million iOS devices, and Google has seen almost 250 million Android activations. (We’ll find out how Apple did over Christmas next Tuesday when it reports earnings.) So it’s pretty close, for context.
But the PC market is shrinking and the smartphone and tablet markets are exploding.
There have been a lot of Microsoft momentum stories recently, but a lot of it is theoretical. Windows 8 tablets can’t come soon enough, and Microsoft had better find real success with Nokia’s Windows phones, or growth could be elusive.
