Amazon’s New Kindles
The one I’m most interested in is actually the Kindle Paperwhite.
I’ve never actually bought a Kindle before — I’ve tested a bunch, but never felt I needed to own one — but I think the new light-up display could do the trick. I’ve purposely avoided unitaskers like the Kindle in the past, preferring to read e-books on my iPhone and iPad — devices I was already carrying around. I’m hoping this new screen makes up for the inefficiency.
I’d be going for the wi-fi, ad-supported model for $119; I personally don’t see a need to spend $60 more for the 3G version when both my iPhone and iPad support tethering.
There’s also the new $199 Kindle Fire HD and $299 Kindle Fire HD 8.9″, but my take on those is that it’s still worth the extra money to get into the iOS world. Still, I think Amazon is going to sell a ton of these this holiday season. And that supposed iPad mini is now much more important for Apple.
